Getaway: Miami

July 2016

I'm going a bit out of order to document my travels. It just wouldn't be fitting to not post about Miami on the 4th of July. You'll see why.

Backstory: Laura met George while he was working in Dallas. Alex was his roommate. We met up with them when they were living at the Omni Hotel and decided to book a spontaneous trip to Miami for the 4th of July. Best decision L and I have ever made together.

We went with a group of eight people. Besides L and me, everyone was international and temporarily living in the States for work. Our crew was from Greece, Sweden and Germany.

Getting There: L and I were the last ones to arrive in Miami. The rest of the group had a beach day then got ready to go out. Before our departure, L stood in my apartment panicking (screaming/cursing/crying) over reserving bottle service at a place called Liv, where Steve Aoki was performing. Via group Facebook message, we came in at #7 and #8 to agree to these plans.

L finally calmed down enough to get into an Uber, where she began to panic, again. We listened to Taylor Swift though, and by the time we arrived, she was calm. But that lasted about 30 seconds before the Uber drove away... with her phone still in the front seat playing Taylor Swift. Luckily, L is also swift and ran after the Uber, catching his attention in the review mirror. When L realized she left her phone, she chunked her suitcase about 25 yards into traffic at DFW. If you know anything about DFW, this basically means her suitcase and phone are now both MIA. Luckily, I grabbed her suitcase just as she got her phone. Crises avoided.

We ate dinner at the airport and had a solid heart:heart. As we were boarding the plane, American Airlines decided my suitcase was too large to carry on. I secretly love when that happens because it's like checking a bag for free and then I don't have to embarrass myself by lifting it into the overhead bin. As I rounded the corner and told L, she ran back and explained to them that we had an appointment as soon as we landed in Miami, and therefore, I needed my suitcase on the plane with me.

Luckily, I braved the embarrassment of putting my suitcase in the overhead bin because our flight was delayed. Some grown men couldn't get along and one started throwing around words like threatened, hostile environment, uncomfortable, etc. so the Dallas Police Department was called onto the plane to mediate.

Night 1: L and I finally arrive in Miami. It was at least 10 o'clock. We freshened our makeup in the Uber on the way to our Airbnb. We pull up to the cutest pink mansion with a Bentley parked in the driveway. We were so excited to finally be there that I don't remember running upstairs and changing. We grabbed another Uber and headed to meet our crew.

George came outside the bar into a hotel lobby to get us. We got to cut the line because of the bottle service we (reluctantly) agreed to. Crew was sitting on the edge of the table observing the dance floor, until The Party aka L and Ken arrived. We walked in screaming and didn't stop until we touched back down in Dallas.

All I have to say is nothing beats bottle service at Liv, and I love Steve Aoki.

Day 2: L and I woke up and ate Poptarts on a bed that was in the living room, which became our morning routine. Beach beach beach was on the agenda for the rest of the day.

Night 2: we went to a hostel for drinks. It was chill, which was necessary after Night 1.

Day 3: More beach beach beach. And some pool at Delano Beach Club.

Night 3: We made a deal. Since we saw Steve Aoki, everyone else had to see Justin Bieber. It just happened to be my second time to see him in three months, which I'm very proud of as a Belieber. We saw him at Story. But to get our passes, we had to go to Señor Frog's. Who knew that L was a champion hula hooper? Everyone at Señor Frog's now knows! To get to Story, we took a limo with a bunch of other Beliebers. It was everything to me.

Day 4th of July: lots of red, white and beach before we took a red eye back to good ol' Dallas.

Such an unforgettable 4th.
