Some of my favorite memories are from Christmastime! Since Christmas is only ONE week away, I thought today was the perfect time to share a few of my favorite Christmas traditions, stories and pictures!
TIMELESS TRADITIONS
Sleeping Beauties: As little girls, Kels and I were used to staying up past midnight and getting up after 10. For most kids, Christmas morning is the exception but not for us. Our parents would try to wake us up but we refused to move until we were ready!
Pajama Party: Kels and I would get to open a Christmas present on Christmas Eve and it was always PJs for us to sleep in.
Secrets are No Fun: Kels, Taylor and I don't exchange gifts anymore because we can't keep a secret. The three of us would sneak away and count to three then yell out what we got each other! We thought it was absolutely hilarious - Our moms didn't!
Mom's Closet: My mom hides our Christmas presents in the same spot in the corner of her closet every year and every year she complains about us finding our presents! It's not our fault!
"But I wanted that One": No matter what it was, I always wanted the color that Kelsey received instead of the color that I was given!
SPIRITED STORIES
Santa Baby: Although I was only 2 months old for my first Christmas, my mom painted my finger nails red.
Surprise Santa: My parents had a friend who was dressing up as Santa so he offered to come by our house on Christmas Eve. My parents left a present on the porch for him to bring to me. Santa arrived late in the evening. As I ran down the hall to see who had walked in the door, I froze when I saw the man in the big red coat standing by our Christmas tree. He told me that I needed to go to bed so that he could come back and deliver my presents. At 2 a.m., my mom was begging me to fall asleep.
Up to Snow Good: During a snow day, my dad took our plastic kiddie pool and turned it into a sleigh. He tied a rope around the pool then attached it to the back of his four wheeler. Kels was about 2 years old. She was so bundled up that her arms stuck straight out!
Assembly Required: One of our presents from Santa was a slide in our backyard. My dad built the slide at our neighbor's house so the neighbor's German Shepherd thought the slide was his. Any time Kels and I got on the slide, the dog went ballistic!
The Light Show: My dad didn't think that putting a 3 and 6 year old on the roof to help put up Christmas lights was a bad idea. My mom did though. She didn't think it was cute when she pulled into the driveway and Kels and I waved and yelled, "Hi Mom!" from the rooftop.
Ho Ho Ho: I found out Santa wasn't real when I was in third grade. On Christmas night, my mom was picking up Christmas decorations and I said, "Mom, I just want to know. Is Santa real or not?" My mom explained that the idea of Santa Claus came from the Christian gift-giver Saint Nicholas. After our conversation, my mom went into the garage to finish putting decorations away and I walked into the garage and said, "What about the reindeer?" She explained that deer look like they are flying when they run and that is where we get the idea of Santa's reindeer flying through the air. I closed the door then opened it back up and said, "Easter bunny?". She sadly said, "no" and I shut the door. I quickly opened the door again and said, "Tooth fairy?" and again, she said, "no". My childhood officially ended on Christmas night of 2000!
Mrs. Claus: After Taylor and I stopped believing in Santa, my mom made us promise that we wouldn't tell Kelsey that Santa wasn't real. Driving down the highway, Taylor asked us if we believed in Santa. Keeping my promise to my mom, I immediately said, "Yes!" and Kelsey said, "I don't, but I believe in Mrs. Claus and I know she is working hard to get ready for Christmas!" Kels saw who did all the work at our house!

Finders Keepers: Last Christmas, Kels and I asked for at least a dozen different OPI nail polishes. My mom and aunt went to run errands and accidentally left a bag full of OPI nail polish on the counter. As any smart college girls would do, we quickly painted our nails but pretended like we had not seen the polish when they arrived home. On Christmas, we were proud to show them our already-painted nails and we were even more proud that we had found the polish on the counter instead of in my mom's closet!
