For a Good Cause
I love all events, especially ones that are for a good cause.
My bffs and I spend a lot of time at fundraisers and benefit events. It's like it's my job or something (ha!).
I named this post For a Good Cause for a reason: most charity events are happy hours or serve sips and bites, which totally makes drinking on a week night ok, right? After all, it's for a good cause!
To know Kristen and me is to know our passion for serving on the Think Ahead Group Advisory (TAG) Board. TAG raises money to support research at the Center for BrainHealth and its Brain Performance Institute that discovers and implements new ways to understand, protect and heal the human brain. I moved to Dallas to intern at the Center for BrainHealth.
After seeing my grandfather suffer from Alzheimer's/Dementia, brain health became an important cause to me. The wicked disease affected my entire family. Kristen's grandfather also suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and we've had multiple friends sustain concussions while playing sports. After being introduced to the stigma that surrounds brain disease in a college class, we also developed a desire to change the way people view mental health.
TAG provides us with an opportunity to contribute to and learn more about a cause we're passionate about, while socializing with other young professionals who share the same passion.
We attend most of the TAG events, and I plan all of the ChildCareGroup events, but we're always up for an event if it's for a good cause! Next week, I'll share more about my work events.
Our favorite event is the TAG Derby. Kristen and I were Assistant Co-Chairs this year and are Co-Chairing the event next year. Ask our friends, and they will tell you nobody is safe when it comes to Derby donations. You will either be asked to buy a ticket and attend or to be a sponsor. And a big huge thank you to our friends and family who have done both or either!
