May 2020 // Highlight Reel

Happy Birthday, Bear: Sam turned 33 on Mother's Day! Our pre-pandemic plan was to spend the weekend in Kansas City for our couples shower. Instead, we had a full weekend on the water. It's rare that Sam manages to ride all of his water toys, but that's just what he did on his special day. Before breakfast, he went fishing in his bass boat then rode his Jet Ski and Sea-Doo. During lunch, we took the wake boarding boat to Party Cove and around dinnertime, we went fishing again. I would say he had a good day, especially considering the circumstances!
Kramer Girls Lake Weekend: reunited! After countless trips and events getting canceled, we finally got to see each other non-virtually. This marks our first "real" lake weekend of the season. Mom even wake surfed!
Tons of Time on the Water: we spend as much time as possible playing on the lake. I mean, there hasn't been much else we can do. Ha! Sam got his biggest catch of the season a few weeks ago.
Brunch with my Besties: friends, if you're reading, please remind me to take pics when we're together! Kristen and Laura came over for the first time in a long time. We drank mimosas and chatted literally all. day. long. It was so good for the soul!
Coronavirus Chronicles: just a few pandemic-related pics.
At the start of the shelter-in-place madness, we didn't know what to expect. Every time we left one house, we would fill the car to the brim with whatever we thought we might need. It was mostly groceries, work clothes to make me look presentable on camera and tools for Sam's endless project list.
The Blue Angels conducted flyovers to thank medical workers. We were in Dallas when the planes flew over our house, but we only got a quick glimpse before they disappeared. This photo was taken by the building engineers at my office. It's the one time I wished I was at work!
I mentioned it before, but The Great Pause opened up time for us to do projects and enjoy them instead of stress over how we would squeeze them into our over-booked lives. Our latest projects are new windows and ceiling fans! We've been in awe at how pretty the sunsets look now, and the fans are peacefully quiet. Sam wipes down the new glass just about every day (hints the rags on the pool table).
We went from March 15 to May 29 without stepping foot inside a restaurant. That's a really, really long time for us. Ha! It was finally time. We took the boat to Vernon's and ate on the patio.
Not Captured: I would be remiss if I didn't mention the other battle that our great country is currently fighting. In protest of police brutality and racism, riots have broken out in almost every city across America, including Dallas, Tulsa and Kansas City. Many businesses that just reopened in the wake of COVID-19 are closed again because of looters. My prayer is that our nation invites God back into our communities to restore peace to all of us who are hurting and angry. I pray that God opens our hearts so that we may see one another's perspectives and guide us to make our communities safe, healthy and happy for all.
