Getaway: Stony Lake

July 2021 // Stony Lake, Michigan

The annual Dodge vacay was back to regular scheduled programming! Last year's trip was a once in a lifetime, and we're so glad we made it happen - everything from the jet ski to the dunes to having the SRT there was just perfect.

This year was special in a different way though. Right after last year's trip, Sam planned to golf with a colleague who was also a mentor and friend. Sadly, Aaron past away this winter, but Sam and another colleague, Brad, kept their golf plans and honored Aaron on the course. The course, American Dunes, funds The Folds of Honor Foundation, which was founded by Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, an F-16 pilot with three tours of duty in Iraq. Lt. Col. Rooney also happens to live in Tulsa and was speaking at Sam's work conference the next week. The course was inspired by a passion for America. Sam described his golf adventure as "magical". How could it not be?! So many of Sam's passions were wrapped into one day!

Another special memory from this trip was watching Charlie learn to water ski. He said it was the highlight of his trip and wanted to go over and over again. Watching him smile ear to ear made my heart happy.

This year was Baby Jack's first Michigan adventure. The Austin Dodges stayed at our Dallas house for a night then made their way to Kansas City for a week and stayed a couple of weeks in Michigan. Jack loved wagon rides - Sam pulled him in the same small circle around the driveway for over an hour one morning.

If I'm going to mention the boys, I have to mention our sweet Zella. We didn't get a pic of her, but she spent lots of time relaxing on the beach like a grown up!
